Omaha Fences In Rosenblatt

Published by on June 17, 2010

Rosenblatt Stadium In Omaha, Nebraska, the grounds for the College World Series, will have a new protective fence surrounding the parking and stadium for its last series.  With huge numbers expected, the city took extra measures in order to ensure safety and have greater control of the crowds.

Many are upset about the look and feel of the six-foot chain-link fence that now welcomes visitors to the stadium.  One annual tailgater I spoke to is outraged about what will become of the atmosphere at the series that makes it so great as well as what this means for next year at the new stadium.  Will there be an even greater crackdown on enjoying yourself before a game?

The biggest question is "Why now?"  The stadium has lasted 60 years without a fence.

One does not need to be installed for the last year.

Yes, the games will be played, and the people will still have the best two weeks of the summer. But it will be muted.  There won't be the interaction, fun, or tradition of past College World Series.

In a sense, the games will go on. Sort of.
