Kansas Hands Top-Ranked LSU Its First Loss

"It's not your dad's Sunflower State," was a saying baseball fans of the Big 12 Conference heard often in 2009, as both the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats played some of their best ball in school history.

Now it's 2010, and both teams are once again showing how tough they are. The 'Cats have only dropped two games on the season, and KU rode their four-game winning streak into Baton Rouge on Friday, upsetting top-ranked LSU 11-9.

It was two main stars shining for Kansas Friday night.

Outfielder Casey Lytle went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI while reaching base twice thanks to base on balls.

Brett Bochy, a junior, held the fort for 2.1 innings, recording his second save of the year. He faced eight Tiger hitters, striking out five, walking one, and allowing no hits.

Bochy's relief duty put the clamp on the five-run rally LSU put together in the seventh inning, as the Tigers finally started to figure out starter TJ Walz. Travis Blankenship was called to relieve Walz but gave up two more earned runs before Bochy, a righty, was called from the bullpen.
