College Baseball: Week 1 Recap of Top Five Teams

Filthy uniforms, copious amounts of eye-black and the sweet pinging sound of aluminum bats returned over the weekend—as College Baseball kicked off its 2012 season. Let's go though a recap of the weekend, focusing on the top teams in the nation.

The No. 1 ranked Florida Gators took two of three games over the No. 16 ranked Cal State Fullerton Titans. Preston Tucker was locked in all weekend for the Gators, going six for 11 with two homers.

No. 2 ranked South Carolina swept Virginia Military Institute over the weekend. The Gamecocks' pitching staff clearly has not missed a beat from last season, as VMI hit a measly .121 during the three-game set.

The No. 3 ranked Stanford Cardinal made a huge statement over the weekend, sweeping the No. 12 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores in impressive fashion. The cardinal broke out for 35 runs in the three games. Not an easy task against a Vanderbilt club that made it to Omaha last summer.
