College Baseball: Arizona State Closes Out Rivalry with Close Win vs. Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils have gone opposite directions ever since their first showdown of the season in Tempe.

Both teams were on a hot streak, destroying their out of conference opponents on their way to Pac-10 play. But ever since ASU took two out of three against UA, the Sun Devils went on to enter the month of May ranked seventh in the nation while the Wildcats continued to drop series after series against Pac-10 foes.

I was almost like the out of conference schedule for Arizona was too weak and made them look like a good team.

Make no mistake, however; the Wildcats have a great lineup that tops the conference in multiple categories and boost two top-caliber starting pitchers. It is their bullpen that has been been the problem.

But in Tuesday's final season showdown, it was the other way around.
