Clemson Tigers Baseball: Tigers Take Two of Three from UAB

The Clemson baseball team got its season underway this past weekend when it hosted the UAB Blazers for a three-game series. The Tigers bounced back from an opening-day loss to take the final two games of the series.

The first game of the series turned out to be a pitcher’s duel. The Tigers got on the board first when Spencer Kieboom doubled home a run in the bottom of the second inning.

However, Dillon Napoleon threw seven solid innings for the Blazers to shut down the Clemson bats after that. UAB’s Keith DePew scored twice in the game, including the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on pinch-hitter Tyler Mims’ sacrifice fly. The Tiger offense couldn’t respond, and the Blazers were able to hold on for a 2-1 victory in the series opener.

In Game 2, Dominic Leone turned in a nice start for the Tigers, going six scoreless innings and giving up only two hits. Richie Shaffer got the offense going early on with a two-run homer in the first inning, and then Brad Felder hit a two-run blast of his own in the third inning.
