Baseball Player Catches Squirrel in Helmet After Critter Storms the Field

Behold “Squirrel Man,” the world’s newest superhero. 

A college baseball game between Wichita State and Kansas was put on hold when a squirrel stormed the field. Players watched in amusement as the furry little interloper set up camp in the infield (via Busted Coverage), romping on shoes and making itself at home around the players until a helmeted hero took control of the situation. 

The unlikely hero was Wichita State baserunner Tyler Baker, who had been a standing on second before deciding to take off in pursuit of the squirrel. Baker took off his helmet and gave chase, walking determinedly after the fleeing animal.

After a few loops around the basepath, Baker managed to catch the little critter as it attempted to flee into the outfield, scooping it up handily with his batting helmet to cheers from the Kansas crowd.
