"It's not your dad's Sunflower State," was a saying baseball fans of the Big 12 Conference heard often in 2009, as both the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats played some of their best ball in school history.

Now it's 2010, and both teams are once again showing how tough they are. The 'Cats have only dropped two games on the season, and KU rode their four-game winning streak into Baton Rouge on Friday, upsetting top-ranked LSU 11-9.

It was two main stars shining for Kansas Friday night.

Outfielder Casey Lytle went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI while reaching base twice thanks to base on balls.

Brett Bochy, a junior, held the fort for 2.1 innings, recording his second save of the year. He faced eight Tiger hitters, striking out five, walking one, and allowing no hits.

Bochy's relief duty put the clamp on the five-run rally LSU put together in the seventh inning, as the Tigers finally started to figure out starter TJ Walz. Travis Blankenship was called to relieve Walz but gave up two more earned runs before Bochy, a righty, was called from the bullpen.

The game's key frame came in the top of the second when the Jayhawks sent 11 men to the plate, scoring six runs. Kansas would only score in two more innings—three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth—but it was enough to hand LSU their first loss of the season.

Kansas and LSU play again Saturday at 2 p.m.

WP : Walz (3-1)
LP : Bourgeios (2-1)
S : Bochy (2)

Read more College Baseball news on BleacherReport.com

The eyes of the college baseball world will be on Houston, Texas this weekend as Minute Maid Park plays host to the annual Houston College Classic.

This year, Texas, Texas Tech, and Missouri from the Big 12 along with Conference USA's Houston and Rice and Mountain West Conference powerhouse TCU will throwdown in what's sure to hold an excitement level close to that of the NCAA Regionals.

The Rundown:

Favorites:

Despite half the schools competing belonging to the Big 12 Conference, the three favorites for this weekend's round robin are split between all three conferences represented.

The Texas Longhorns, Rice Owls, and TCU Horned Frogs are ranked Nos. 5, 10, and 16, respectively, in the latest Rivals.com Top 25 and are all favorites to win their leagues when the time comes in May.

Darkhorse:

If I had to pick a darkhorse for the Houston College Classic, it would have to be Texas Tech. The Red Raiders aren't exactly a baseball powerhouse but currently hold a 6-2 record and are averaging 9.4 runs per game. If they can keep with the solid bats, the boys from Lubbock might do damage.

Game to Watch:

TCU against Rice will be the final game of the Houston College Classic on Sunday night. Both teams are baseball powers every season, but neither come from a very strong conference. Whichever team is able to pull out a win on Sunday on a neutral site will be able to point to it when the NCAA Tournament starts and the selection committee is picking national seeds.

Schedule:

Friday:

Noon - TCU vs. Texas Tech
3:30 p.m. - Houston vs. Missouri
7 p.m. - Rice vs. Texas

Saturday:
